Boys and Girls Club: Financial Skills Seminar & Bank Tour Lighthouse is very involved with the Boys and Girls Club of the Suncoast and our president sits on their board of directors. Part of our involvement has included instructing weekly money management courses aimed at helping the teenagers within three local clubs understand the topics included in the following units:
- Financial Goals and Values
- How Does Your Cash Flow?
- Pay Yourself First (Saving)
- Job-related Financial Decisions
- Using Credit Wisely
- Protecting Yourself Against Losses
- The Time Value of Money (Investing)
- Money Talks…Or Does It?

For the culminating activity Lighthouse partnered with a local branch of Bank of America to do an after-hours tour of the bank. The teens who participated in the event were able to:
- Explore the vault
- Learn the job duties of bank personnel
- Learn about the different types of accounts
- Open an account which fit their financial situation
In addition to providing financial education to the members of the Boys and Girls Club, Lighthouse has also donated many resources to help sponsor and support many of their other activities, including:
"Backpack" to School Barbeque and "Back to School" Bash These were end-of-summer activities designed to allow the kids to wind down the summer break and "gear" up for the start of a new school year. In addition to sponsoring the barbeque and dance, Lighthouse also donated school supplies, calculators, and backpacks to the elementary, middle and high school students.

Holiday Parties Early on in our participation with the Boys and Girls Club, we learned that anyone can give money, but it's not the money that makes the real difference. Spending time encouraging, coaching and challenging the teenagers and children by allowing them to participate in the planning process is what really makes the "dollars" count. Applying this principle to the holiday parties allowed the participants to catch a glimpse of how planning, teamwork and lots of effort are key ingredients to success.

New Teen Center Grand Opening Lighthouse was also happy to be involved in the planning and grand opening ceremony of a new Boys and Girls Club Teen Center in Clearwater, Florida.
The employees who have participated in these events have realized the truth in Winston Churchill's statement: "We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give."
