For Children

National Jump$tart Survey Results show that the newest class of consumers in this country are expected to make poor financial decisions 50% of the time. In an effort to prepare young Americans better, Lighthouse Credit Foundation has signed up approximately 30 teens for an 11-week Financial Peace for the next generation pilot program at the Boys & Girls Club.

The Course Objectives are as follows:

Raise Awareness — Increase participants understanding of practical money management principles
Change Attitudes — Improve/enhance participants' attitudes towards ability to become financially independent
Modify Behavior — Modify current saving practices to include:
1. Opening a savings account
2. Developing the habit of savings
3. Developing the habit of "planned spending"

Graduation Requirements:

Attend classes/events more than 80% of the time (9/11 weeks)
Make-up any missed classes (arranged with instructor)
Complete:
1. Initial and Final Assessments
2. Any assignments provided by the class instructor
Participate in a planned spending program
Create a financial records file
Establish a savings account (if currently don’t have one)
Make a “matched savings deposit” and document a pattern of savings (copy of savings deposits—remove confidential information)
Teach someone who is not in the class three important concepts you learned during the course and document the instruction
Refer three other teens to participate in the next series of Financial Peace classes
Complete final assessment with 80% proficiency
Attend graduation.
