LIGHTHOUSE CREDIT FOUNDATION TEACHES FINANCIAL EDUCATION TO CITY OF LARGO RESIDENTS
LARGO, Fla.- (August 9, 2005)-
Lighthouse Credit Foundation and the City of Largo announce a joint effort to provide financial education courses to teen residents on Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m., starting August 9, 2005, through May 9, 2006.
The courses are an extension of the LifeSmarts Program, run by the National Consumers Leagues, which teaches high school students knowledge of life skills. The five categories covered are personal finance, technology, environment, health and safety, and consumer rights.
Lighthouse has been involved with LifeSmarts since 2003, and has coached winning teams in the annual LifeSmarts competition both locally and nationally.
“We feel the program gives Lighthouse the opportunity to work hands-on with young consumers to teach them how to manage money and stay out of debt,” said Lighthouse Credit Foundation President Mary Melcer. “The program focuses on consumer and marketplace skills, and it is our philosophy to educate young consumers on the brink of financial independence to become financially sound.”
Lighthouse and the City of Largo have signed a one-year service agreement for Lighthouse education services counselor and LifeSmarts coach Michelle Hunt to teach the course. Classes will be held at the City of Largo Southwest Recreational Complex located at 13120 Vonn Road, Largo, FL.
