BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB TEENS CELEBRATE HOLIDAYS PARTY STYLE
TAMPA, Fla.- (December 13, 2002) - Lighthouse Credit Foundation (LCF) and The Pinellas County Boys & Girls Clubs 61C Teen Centers will celebrate the customs, traditions and music of five world religions and cultures at a holiday party, on Wednesday, December 18, 2002, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Pinellas Park Boys & Girls Club located at 7790 61st Street North.
The colorful celebration, which will recognize Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and African Kwanzaa, gives teenagers an opportunity to learn and experience how other cultures and religions celebrate during the winter holiday season. LCF employees and teenagers from the 61C Teen Centers have researched and planned the entire event as part of LCF's 'adoption' of the Boys & Girls Club. During the program the teenagers will present the importance of the food, music, and customs of each religion and/or culture represented. There will also be a variety of ethnic food dishes and desserts on display - and later enjoyed!
The unique collaboration between LCF employees and 61C Teen Center teenagers is part of a larger program designed by employees at LCF to reach out into their community to extend not just funding but time, financial expertise and mentoring. The commitment on behalf of the LCF management and staff and Boys & Girls Clubs of Pinellas County will continue through 2003.
61C Teen Center is a youth-empowered teen center run for teens by teens. The objective of 61C Teen Center is to establish a safe and positive environment and the club welcomes all teenagers. The club is designed to allow the active and hands-on exploration of abilities, to develop confidence by goal setting and accomplishment and to promote the idea of dreams.
"We want to show the world that young people should be looked upon as problem solvers, not problems," says Mary Melcer, president of LCF.
