LIGHTHOUSE CREDIT FOUNDATION COOKS UP A BACK-TO-SCHOOL PLAN FOR PINELLAS BOYS & GIRLS CLUB

LARGO, Fla.- (July 22, 2002)- For two hundred Boys & Girls Club members in Pinellas Park, getting ready to go back to school isn't looking all that bleak, thanks to the efforts of local employer, Lighthouse Credit Foundation (LCF). What started as an employee project that would use time and energy to positively impact the local community has now turned in to an old fashioned summer picnic followed by the provision of stuffed back packs - with all the essentials for getting the right start in a new school year.

On Thursday, August 1, 2002 LCF will cook up hot dogs and hamburgers, play some outdoor games and at the end of it all, provide at least one essential back-to-school need- a brand-new backpack. The backpacks will be filled with loose-leaf paper, spiral notebooks, pens and pencils, pocket folders, LCF crayons, LCF colored pencils, and LCF calculators. The BIC Corporation contributed the pens and Corporate Image Apparel offered a very generous discount on the 200 backpacks. LCF hopes the new supplies will help the 150 children under 12-years old and the 50 over 12-years old children get excited about the new school year and inspire them to look forward to a new year of learning.

Twenty Lighthouse Credit Foundation employees will be on hand to volunteer their culinary grill talents, organize games and hand out the backpacks. Additionally, all LCF employees are taking part by donating many of the school supplies themselves on the day before the cookout. The employee donations will be made from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Lighthouse Credit Foundation Break Room.

LCF Marketing Coordinator Terrie McGowan is thrilled about the event and stated, "Our management has given us the go-ahead to be active and involved in our community. Kids going back to school is a big deal and in our business we realize the importance of inspired learning, so this seems like fun."

The LCF barbecue cookout will take place on Thursday, August 1 at the Pinellas Park Boys & Girls Club located at 5111 66th Street North, St. Petersburg, FL from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. The children will gather at noon to enjoy hot dogs, chips, soft drinks and games; after lunch they will receive their new backpacks.

Lighthouse works within the community and strives to be a resource for those in need. The Foundation works closely with several community outreach programs to offer assistance via the time and talents of its workforce, and by donating time and money to many deserving organizations such as the YMCA, Pinellas Education Foundation, Boy Scouts of America, and law enforcement agencies.
