LIGHTHOUSE CREDIT FOUNDATION REACHES OUT TO TODAY'S YOUTH
TAMPA, Fla.- (June 24, 2002)- Lighthouse Credit Foundation (LCF) continues its support for the Tampa Bay community and today's youth by teaming up with the Boy Scouts of America to teach some very important and beneficial financial lessons. And to assist in the education and process of badge earning too.
Every Tuesday for one month LCF is sending key staff personal to the Sandhill Scout Reservation to assist the boys in the Boy Scouts of America, West Central Florida Council in earning their Personal Management Badges. The LCF employees will instruct the boys on the importance of budgeting, personal finance and saving. On Tuesday, June 25, 2002 Lighthouse Credit Foundation President & CEO Mary Melcer will provide hands-on teaching about how to live within one's means and how to use a credit card, checking and savings account.
Each Scout will be given a "fake" paycheck and then instructed as to how to pay typical monthly bills. "Checks" will be written, pseudo credit card purchases will be made and hopefully there will be funds left over for savings. Even luxury buys will be permitted - if the money stretches that far! The boy scouts must figure how out how to budget first and then see if the funds are enough to pay for everything. LCF hopes that these lessons will teach the boy scouts how to prepare and then spend responsibly and the importance of managing money wisely.
LCF staff will instruct the boy scouts at Sandhill Scout Reservation every Tuesday from June 18 through July 16, 2002 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Lighthouse Credit Foundation is a local non-profit agency dedicated to providing financial counseling, education and assistance to individuals who have need or limited resources.
