MARY MELCER JOINS PINELLAS COUNTY EDUCATION FOUNDATION BOARD OF DIRECTORS
LARGO, Fla.- (June 7, 2002)- Mary Melcer, President of Lighthouse Credit Foundation, has recently been appointed to serve as a member of the Pinellas County Education Foundation Board of Directors. Ms. Melcer is one of four new appointees to the Foundation's Board.
Melcer contributes her vast industry knowledge to the dynamic and diverse non-profit board. Having begun her career in finance in the mortgage industry, Melcer has watched her career path change, evolve and grow; but her desire to combine her interest in business development along with her vision of being actively engaged in the community has not.
Following a position at Countrywide Home Loans, Melcer later worked for several national mortgage bankers before starting up a highly successful mortgage division for Republic Bank, which opened locally and expanded nationally under her direction. While at Republic Bank, Ms. Melcer was instrumental in facilitating one of the largest bulk loan sales of its kind in the United States. Later, with a group of investors, she opened a for-profit financial services corporation before founding Lighthouse Credit Foundation. Ms. Melcer is also a partner in Simplified Data Solution, Inc., a specialty marketing company.
In 2000, Melcer established Lighthouse Credit Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing financial counseling, education and assistance to those with limited resources. In less than two years, Lighthouse Credit Foundation grew to national prominence as one of the leading institutions of its kind.
Mary Melcer has served on the board of directors of Flagship Capital Services Corp. and has been a member of the Mortgage Bankers of America for more than ten years. She also serves on the business education committee for the Largo Chamber of Commerce.
Chairman of the Pinellas County Education Foundation Mitch Lee states, "We believe that Ms. Melcer will add further depth to a board of directors which is already one of the most energetic and dynamic non-profit boards in Florida."
The Pinellas County Education Foundation, founded in 1986, has raised more than $40 million to create and support innovative educational programs for the schoolchildren and educators of Pinellas County Schools, including Enterprise Village and Finance Park, the Doorways Scholarship Program, classroom grants for educators, and scholarships for deserving students.
Lighthouse Credit Foundation is located at 8550 Ulmerton Road, Suite 150, Largo, FL 33771. Lighthouse Credit Foundation is a non-profit agency dedicated to providing financial counseling, education and assistance to individuals who have need or limited resources.
